Bio

River Soma was born in a small town in Pennsylvania on July 1,1979. She began her art career as a young child, being fascinated with color, and participating in her first art exhibit at the age of 7. Influenced by her grandmothers skill at painting family portraits, and her mothers hobby of landscape painting, River found no lack of encouragement from family and teachers. Applied Arts became her passion while moving through her school years.

After a 3 year drought at the end of her college career, River again picked up the brush and began her series of watercolor portraits. Suprised by her acquired skill after such a long absence, she became inspired to continue painting and exploring her talents. In the years following she found her voice through the brush and canvass.

During an extended period of meditation practice in the fall of 2003 and spring of 2004, River discovered through her art a form of sacred expression. Following her intuition, and receiving visions which she would later translate onto canvas, she reinvented, for the second time, her technique and style. Today, she experiments with a variety of materials and media to bring her artistic vision to life. Currently residing in Portland, Oregon, River paints visionary art, freelance illustration, and commissioned portraits.
